Michiel DorresteijnMichiel has a track record of more than 15 years in the energy sector, both in policy making as well as in energy consultancy. At Baringa he combines consultancy assignments with business development in Baringa’s Energy & Resources – Retail, Networks and Water department. Based in The Netherlands, he specializes in shaping new energy concepts into feasible solutions for the transition related challenges that both policy makers and market participants may face. Michiel has driven several projects where a focus on the interaction between grids, system operation, and demand and supply led to actionable market process designs. |

Rens PhilipsenRens provides commercial advisory around asset valuation, contracting structures, and market strategy for flexible and renewable assets. Based in Rotterdam, he supports clients across northwestern Europe to develop their commercial strategy, combining his background in research, trading, and consultancy to provide advice focused around value stacking of short-term markets. Developers, financers, and operators rely on his advice to build and evaluate business cases for financing, M&A activity, and contracting of batteries, electrolysers, and wind/solar farms. |

Marcel VolkertsMarcel, a PhD in experimental nuclear physics, has worked with clients in the public and private sectors. He’s helped build smart cities in regions like France’s Hauts-de-France, The Netherlands’ metropolitan region of Rotterdam-The Hague, and the EU member state of Luxembourg. He was also part of the team that designed and put into practice the Universal Smart Energy Framework, a framework for designing smart energy products and services. Marcel believes we’ll only deal with the challenges facing the energy sector by working together. He’s led a four-year smart gas grids research project involving several partners, advised local authorities on developing decarbonisation plans, and designed heat strategies for UK network companies. |

Cliff BleekerCliff focuses on both commercial and policy advisory around electricity grids, interconnection and offshore wind energy. In recent projects, he supported clients in thinking about the business case and trading arrangements for hybrid offshore infrastructure and developed models for the volatility value of interconnectors. Based in the Dutch Baringa office, he specializes on the European countries around the North Sea and GB to support clients in transactions, policy developments and revenue studies. |

Ben HallBen leads our work on energy networks innovation and the development of smart, local power systems. Working with networks and market participants he leads projects developing new ways to integrate low carbon technologies into the energy system, across topics such as EV smart charging, decarbonisation of heat, demand-side flexibility, and community energy. Ben also works with energy networks to deliver innovation into their business operations, building new processes, systems, and capabilities to accelerate connections and manage flexibility at scale as a Distribution System Operator. |
