With the Australian Government’s introduction of new mandatory climate disclosure standards, firms are on the cusp of a fundamental change in financial reporting. Company directors will be required to sign off on mandatory climate disclosures under existing liability frameworks. This emphasises the importance of ensuring credibility of new disclosure content, against an environment of heightened regulatory enforcement of greenwashing misconduct.
About the research
In the report, Baringa provides an analysis of more than 120 companies in Australia’s mining and energy sectors, all of which are categorised under Group 1 of the incoming Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) climate disclosure standards. Group 1 companies are required to publish climate disclosures consistent with the standards in financial years 2025 and 2026.
