Baringa Matrix of Health Productivity
4 min read 31 October 2024
Improving productivity is essential for delivering high-quality care and ensuring the sustainability of healthcare services. Following the publication of the Darzi NHS review, our Health and Operational Excellence experts take a closer look at some of the levers NHS leaders have at their disposal to boost productivity.
During Baringa’s Productivity Roundtable (read the write up here), leaders from across the NHS discussed themes including: unlocking the power of collaboration and people empowerment, rebalancing service management and transformation activity, and performance frameworks that focus on outcomes over outputs. Building on these insights, our team have developed the Baringa Matrix of Health Productivity.
Our framework is designed to highlight recommendations for both long term opportunities and quick wins that NHS leaders should consider. These are intended to drive three key aspects of productivity:
- managing increased demand while optimising the precious time of clinicians
- increasing the output of each team without additional resources
- ensuring end-to-end system alignment, promoting collaboration across teams and processes to improve health outcomes.
We invite NHS leaders to engage with the framework, test our thinking and share your insights. If using the framework highlights any areas where additional support is needed within your organisation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ellie Wilkes. We’re here to assist and provide tailored guidance to maximise its impact and collectively drive productivity gains across the healthcare landscape.
