In detail: 

Michiel’s professional career has been multi-faceted. He has worked in different sectors, in different countries, in government and in commercial settings. All this has shaped his profile as a consultant in the energy space, where the complexity requires a broad perspective.  

Michiel started his professional career in the geospatial information sector, and spent some years living and working in a remote region in the Andes. Since then, he has been an entrepreneur and worked for the Dutch governmental body responsible for supporting the country’s renewable energy policies.  

He brings a deep expertise in energy policy, regulation, spatial planning and stakeholder engagement to his work at Baringa where he is primarily focused on market process design, energy flexibility, energy hubs and multi-commodity energy systems, in assignments for utilities, governments, and large industrial sites. Clients value Michiel’s knowledge of energy market processes, system concepts and sector trends, combined with his awareness of complex stakeholders and ability to create actionable solutions.  

When not at work Michiel is a cycling enthusiast – he’s even built his own road bike! Outside of this he enjoys reading, listening to music, playing board-games with his children and travel. His best holidays are spent with family, visiting new cultures and exploring new landscapes, though time with friends and his favourite beer come a close second.
