In detail:
Having spent nearly 15 years in the Civil Service, James has extensive experience at various levels of service delivery in two of its largest Operational Delivery Departments - DWP and HMRC.
Starting as a work coach in Jobcentre Plus, James understands the importance of the services that UK citizens rely on. He can see beyond the numbers and performance targets, and connect with the core purpose that public sector organisations strive towards.
James is a successful alumnus of the Civil Service Fast Stream and Future Leaders Scheme, which allowed him to broaden his perspective across government by building relationships and his understanding of the wider UK Government. During his time on the Civil Service Fast Stream, he developed expertise in effective leadership which contributed to his last role in the civil service as Head of Customer Service for National Insurance Contributions. In this role, he played a pivotal role in defining a future for this service and helped to modernise the way customers interact with the organisation by being responsible for the services being delivered across multiple channels to the entire UK tax paying population.
James enjoys utilising his experience in operational environments and his deep knoweldge of the civil service to help clients solve some of their most complex problems. Examples include implementing strategic transformation of customer service offerings, and finding more effective ways to govern in order to deliver better outcomes for customers today. He is passionate about operational excellence and believes that the civil service can drive productivity improvements through engaging and empowering its people to own the way they work to achieve excellent outcomes for their customers.
James has two daughters and lives in Northumberland. He loves the Northeast and enjoys exploring all it has to offer, from modern city centres to expansive countryside and historical monuments.
